Warm Weather Wanderings

Spring is all too quickly turning into summer, with the sun beating down with incredible heat. So, we decided it was definitely time for some face and ear protection in the form of sun hats. Off we went to the store (where in addition to hats I bought Sebby some cute overalls and Misha some new sandals). After another brief stop for crackers and juice, we made our way to Doka Park, full of beautiful leafy trees and a lot of shade.

The boys admired the flowers

and amused themsevles looking for beetles and spiders.

On the way back home, sleep overcame Sebby. This rarely happens on a weekend!

On a different walk, on a cooler day, we wandered through Erkindik Park, a long skinny boulevard that allows pedestrians to walk all the way to the city center while remaining entirely in the shade. The sun shining behind the leaves makes them glow a brilliant green.

Back in our own little neighborhood, the boys find plenty of other fun things to do outside. Misha now knows so many kids in our area that there is no lack of people to play with. And now that these kids know where Misha lives, they come buzzing our door constantly asking if he can come play. It's great for Misha and Sebby, and they get massive amounts of Russian practice at the same time. But as for Josh and me, we're about ready to unplug our doorbell for good!

Chalk ...

Badminton ...

Building canals in the sand after a good rain ...

Bubbles ...

Piggy-back rides ...

Biking ...

Scootering ...

Climbing ...

And finding little "soldati" soldier bugs to crawl up and down their arms for as long as they are willing to oblige.

When we're not out wandering, we keep busy inside too -

Guitar ...

Tents ...

And chess.

Sebby listens carefully to Misha's advice. Sometimes I overhear Misha explaining possible moves that Sebby could make, or even explaining openings:

"No Sebby, you can't move there. I'll take it with my queen."

"The knight doesn't move like that, Sebby. But it can move here or here."

"This way is called the Dragon Way. Grandpa told me."

Out for some Turkish food.

Another nap during an exhausting day!

Looks like you had fun days this summer - inside and out! Similar to how we like to spend our days, except we've just started teaching Greta checkers, not chess! ;) So cute, the advice Misha gives to Sebby about chess!
